Welcome to Duke Health! We are officially a part of the DHIP community:
Walking shouldn’t be painful when you have the right shoes for your foot condition. At Central Carolina Foot & Ankle Associates, we provide shoe fittings in Durham, NC, designed for diabetic feet and feet with painful conditions. Contact us to learn more or read more about our services and products for diabetic shoes, diabetic shoe program, foot orthotics, retail shoes, and Sterishoe sterilizers.
Diabetes affects your body’s ability to heal and can even affect your ability to feel pain in your extremities. Therefore, it is vital that diabetic patients examine their feet daily and have an examination by our podiatrist at least once a year.
Shoe gear is also very important; diabetics should always wear shoes to protect their feet. Shoes should be well-fitting, made of stretchable, breathable materials, and with supportive foot beds or insoles. Our staff can help find the right shoes for you. Schedule your initial consultation.
In order to help diabetics obtain correct shoe gear and prevent or reduce the number of ulcerations, injuries, and amputations, Medicare, Medicare replacement plans, and some private insurances will assist their diabetic patients in paying for diabetic shoes. For qualifying patients, these insurance plans will pay up to 80% of the cost of the shoes and inserts, each calendar year. In order to qualify, certain conditions must be present, and an exact process must take place:
The value of a good pair of shoes is immeasurable in any patient but can mean life or death in diabetic patients. Take advantage of this beneficial program today!!
Custom (prescription) foot orthotics are specially made devices designed to provide relief from painful foot and ankle conditions by changing the ground to foot relationship. Orthotics change the way the ground meets the foot, and in so doing, change the way your foot functions. Orthotics don’t provide permanent “correction”, but when they are being worn, they accommodate the structural or functional problems that are causing painful symptoms.
The one exception to this is with young children – orthotics can bring about permanent changes if they are worn before the growth plates of the bones have closed (between ages 4 and 14). But beyond the age of 14, orthotics will not bring about permanent changes.
Over-the-counter or off-the-shelf shoe inserts can add additional cushioning and support, but they’re not made to address your specific foot diagnosis. Only a custom made, prescription device can fully address your unique foot structure and function. Contact us today for your custom foot orthotics.
Your feet bear the weight of your entire body all day, every day; don’t they deserve a home that is spacious and comfortable? Unfortunately, not many shoe manufacturers have responded to the “growing” trend in shoe size or are hesitant to provide a large number of specialty sizes in case they do not sell. We are here to help!
The shoe manufacturers we work with are happy to provide a wide range of colors, styles, and sizes to fit every foot. They offer sizes from women’s size 4 to size 13 and men’s size 4 to size 16!
Sterishoe is a safe, easy, and convenient way to ensure your feet and inside of your shoes stay healthy and clean!
The fact is that we all have sweaty feet. The sweat creates a breeding ground in your shoes for the microbes that cause toenail fungus, athlete’s foot, and foot odors.
The doctors at Central Carolina Foot & Ankle use SteriShoes in post treatment to prevent re-infection. It is scientifically proven that footwear is a source of infection and re-infection for toenail fungus. We recommend the SteriShoe shoe sanitizer as a chemical free method to kill fungi and fungal spores in your shoes, and also maintain healthy feet after your treatment.
