Peripheral Arterial Disease
Peripheral Arterial Disease is caused by plaque that builds up in the arteries of the legs. The plaque narrows the vessels that distribute blood to the feet, which in turn causes problems with circulation.
Symptoms
- Leg pain that is worse with walking and relieved by rest
- Poor healing wounds
- Discoloration to the feet and toes
- Skin and nail changes
- Temperatures changes
- Pain in the toes at night

- Diabetes
- Heart Disease
- High cholesterol
- High Blood pressure
- Over 65 years old
PADnet Testing
At Central Carolina Foot & Ankle, we recognize how critical circulation is to overall foot health. We often are the first physicians to diagnose PAD for our patients. Our clinical assistants are trained in PADnet examination techniques, and if we feel a patient is experiencing compromised circulation due to PAD, we suggest they undergo this simple, non-invasive test to determine if intervention is necessary.
The PADnet test can detect blockages in arteries and measures the quality of blood flow using segmental pressures and pulsed volume recordings (PVRs). The test (which takes about 30 minutes) is performed in the office using blood pressure cuffs placed on the patient’s upper arm, upper leg, below the knee, around the ankle and big toe on both sides of the body. The results are then sent to a vascular specialist for interpretation. If the tests are abnormal, patients may be referred for further evaluation and treatment. If the tests are normal, we recommend repeating this test annually to monitor for changes.
